Week 1-2 | Wikipedia:Reliable sources | Lee Jaeseong

1) Summary
Wikipedia should be based on reliable sources. The definition of the source is as follows.

1. The piece of work itself (the article, book)
2. The Creator of the Work (the writer, Journalist)
3. The Publisher of the Work (for example, Random House or Cambridge University Press)

All of these sources should be accessible to the public.

There are four types of sources. First, the first is scolarship, such as papers and books reviewed by the academic community. The second is an article through the news media. The other two are "Vendor and e-Commerce sources," "Biased or open sources." Sources from widely unrecognized scolarship, sponsor content, or personal web pages are not recognized.

Wikipedia depends on what the document represents.

In human biography, there should be no content about a living person that has no source or incomplete source.

All of Wikipedia's tertiary data is unreliable.

It is important that the knowledge is widely recognized in medical documentation.

More than anything else, accuracy and reliability are important in the cited.

2) Interesting points
I often use Wikipedia. I often use it to find information and to read interesting descriptions However, it was interesting that Wikipedia was not necessarily objective. Wikipedia is that sometimes it can be biased and contain editor-in-chiefs. I sometimes enjoy watching political stories and I thought they might not all be true.

3) Discussion
Wikipedia is editable to anyone. Therefore, non-objective content may be included. However, Wikipedia has vast amounts of information. What is the way to get objective information from Wikipedia, which contains this vast amount of information?

Comments

  1. Wikipidia has to have filter. Many user have to declare worng information.

    1. Filters are a good idea. If you have filters, you'll get some more objective information. However, it will be difficult to set a standard for the filter, and if you think of it as a 'collective intellect,' the editors will decide, which, too, will lead to questions about whether it has objectivity.
