Learning from trolls Bullying is a special problem. Recently, cyberbullying is becoming a serious social issue. Wikipedia is also a cyber space where users and users meet. And Wikipedia's harassment document clearly warns or advises against harassment. Categorization Users edit articles in Wikipedia, but Wikipedia has more features, not only simple modifications but more. For example, discussion (talk) tabs, user messages, user talk pages, sandbox features, drafts articles, document frames, media insertions... and Wikipedia also provides users with beta services such as multilingual translation. However, Wikipedia users do not know how to use these services. Wikipedia is a big culture. Many people are in Wikipedia culture. Wikipedia is used and edited by millions of people. So there must be some rules. Rules for document format, rules for discussion, rules for grammar, etc. If you do not keep the rules, Wikipedia will be easily disappeared. why do you think people care about having a  civil working environment? There is a quote that "praise makes an elephant to dance." This quote shows how polite or good praise works for people. There are many editors in Wikipedia, but they do not always spend time for Wikipedia. Many people, like many editors, also stop editing articles, and about 7 percent of people fight with other editors so stop making corrections. Reliability of Wikipedia and reliable sources  In my case, I have thought that Wikipedia is an international webpage that people gather information before I attend Collective intelligence class. Because Wikipedia is the first website I can see if I search anything in Google, and there are millions of articles.  However, Wikipedia is more than I thought. Wikipedia recommend taking articles cites from official journal, expert interview, and any reliable source (we can see the reliablesources page to see some guideline) and even if wrong article is updated, anonymous user can fix it. Wikipedia, the good faith In Kowinski’s review, he criticized that internet and SNS are getting buzz recently, except google or Youtube and Wikipedia. A Globe in Accord As I said in my past blog post, we often can see that small groups argue with the others. I think because of the different thoughts, but still they call as ‘Nazis’ after all argument. A large group has a problem of accord. The rules, such as ‘Don’t make noise’, are not so helpful, and it even makes the community to get a weakness, so Wiki tried to focus on ‘technology’. In Wiki, people have their sandbox.  They can update any document or roll back it. They open a discussion page and share the knowledge and ideas about a document. Interpedia: the ancestor of Wikipedia Interpedia was failed, but still I think it is the father of Wikipedia. Before the internet, people can not get more information that comes from newspapers and journals. This might be the only source of information and knowledge. However, the Interpedia project was started with Micheal Hart’s idea about the net encyclopedia. It is like Wikipedia. There are only few organizations use Wiki for some reasons, because people think using or utilizing Wiki is quite inappropriate. In collective intelligence class, we work on Wiki, but it Is hard to cite Wikipedia for my report, work, and thesis. We know that Wikipedia has proper references but still references from books, academic journals, and official web pages. However, there is a project to utilize Wiki. Summary: Jimmy Wales has founded Wikipedia and Joseph Reagle contributed a lot. Wikipedia is a community, but it does not help us that ‘sharing knowledge for everyone’, but still work for ‘making people depend on this social knowledge asset globally.’ A project like this type seemed unrealistic thing few years before. So many people work collaboratively for Wikipedia, and still there is a lot of things to learn, because Wikipedia does not teach any lesson. It a social protocol, and it is only amount of knowledge. If a result of collective intelligence is free,  what do you think about someone using that result of collective intelligence for commercial? After we watch the lecture video of ‘Why Wikipedia?’, we all know that Wikipedia is free for everyone. When people are discussing, disputing and make better something, we usually say it is collective intelligence. However, before we think a thing is ‘collective intelligence’, we need to know some conditions must be met. As I said last post (Why am I studying this class?), I think team project is based on collective intelligence. My team searched lots of information on the internet to develop the ideas of project and created something. Let’s think about ‘searching’.  When me and my team searched something, we used only major news, such as BBC, KBS, MBC, Hangyeorea, medical journals, and so on. How collective intelligence works in right way? As everyone knows, the students in AD/PR department have a lot of team projects.  I have spent a year with five team projects, and it was tough. I have met some good friends and had good teamwork. Also, I got some bad students who want to just ‘ride’ (this means he doesn’t work for a team project at all but takes only good score in the class.) and terrible teamwork.
