Why am I taking this class? - Jeongbin Lee

While the world is suffering from coronavirus, I heard the word infodemic' in an article I recently read. 'Infodemic' is blend of information +‎ epidemic; wrong information can spread like an epidemic. WHO actually warned of the dangers of infodemic in thier coronaviruse report.

Wrong information can spread very quickly and cause social confusion. News articles show how people respond to this infodemic. Residents of each region use SNS to correct wrong information. It is not just one centralized organization that stops this infodemic. They are scattered individuals.

When we google something, Wikipedia's documentation is at the top of most searches. In Korea, Wikipedia and Namuwiki are one of the most visited websites. We are accustomed to getting knowledge from information edited by other people rather than from encyclopedias on the shelves.

As you can see from this, collective intelligence lies deeply in our lives. In order to live well in today's information society, it seems very important to understand the collective intelligence and develop the ability to use it well.
Because understanding it is related to the ability to live an information society. So I want to learn this ability by taking this class.

  1. I'm so happy to see you mentioned 'spreading wrong information'. Is there any more example about there? I think I have one, SNS. SNS can spread any information quickly, more than some internet news, but often people cannot revise wrong information they once spreaded.
