Why are you taking this class? / Juhee Cha

Knowledge is power. VS Ignorance is medicine.

Recently, I was asked to think about which of these two sentences is better. Of course, it depends on the situation, but I thought sociology is a study that we must know and constantly study in our lives.
To study sociology, I think, is to broaden the horizons of society that have never been seen before. Many of the members of society judge by the appearance of society. It's only natural because the first thing you see is the appearance. However, I think studying sociology is to develop the power to look into the inside of the society. In order to do so, I think there should also be an interest in society.
Therefore, I want to study sociology with interest. Also, I want to let many people know about the society and the facts that I know.
There is also another reason why I have to take the subject 'group intelligence'. I often watch a YouTube channel called '씨리얼'. On this channel, we learn about social issues that we can just pass by. I have looked at this channel and thought again about various problems in society (the relationship between the self-employed and the owners of buildings, and why we are unable to sell alcohol in college festival bars and so on). Because we live closely with the media , I think the media is a great tool for accurate information delivery. It is also interesting to provide such information through collective intelligence.

    I agree with your opinion about media. Media has had huge impact on our thought especially these days. Though media is great tool for accurate information delivery as you said, but also could be very dangerous tool to deliver distorted information due to leverage media has. Already we are facing these side effects (e.g fake news,witch-hunt in online). So i think understanding collective intelligence (through this class) is required to handle that problems. because collective intelligence shows about how people interact with each other in online

Summary Wikipedia is a multilingual online encyclopedia as an collaboration project. It isn't made by one people. Anyone can write and share information. It is maintained by non profit organizations. It is the largest and most popular  general reference work on the World Wide Web, and is one of the 20 most popular websites. Diverse information can be found in encyclopedia. Interesting point Wikipedia is made by group. All people in group can share their own information. Not only expert, but also anyone who have interest in topic, they can participate in make dictionary. I had a negative opinion about this in past, because this can affect on accuracy of information.
