Why are you taking this class? - YoungRyun Chun


In my first year in college, in a major class, I learned the importance of "Big Data". Professor said, “Knowing a way of Dealing with Expanding Volumes of Information will be important in the future society”. Also I realized the method we can get high-quality data through evolving new media is changing. I think one of changed way is “Wikipedia”. Because, Wikipedia shares the information through a network of individuals without the help of experts and books. Currently, Wikipedia has an important role in conveying information to people. This means that the collective intelligence becomes increasingly important that Wikipedia uses.

So, I want to learn through this class “How to easily organize and share the information I have with people”. Editing Wikipedia will help me learn how to effectively share my data with people. In addition, collective intelligence is being used not only in Wikipedia, but also in other fields. By the task of visualizing data will also help to deal with data in other areas.

Therefore, the reason I took this class is to understand the efficiency of collective intelligence through evolving media and increase my ability to use it.

Summary Wikipedia is a multilingual online encyclopedia as an collaboration project. It isn't made by one people. Anyone can write and share information. It is maintained by non profit organizations. It is the largest and most popular  general reference work on the World Wide Web, and is one of the 20 most popular websites. Diverse information can be found in encyclopedia. Interesting point Wikipedia is made by group. All people in group can share their own information. Not only expert, but also anyone who have interest in topic, they can participate in make dictionary. I had a negative opinion about this in past, because this can affect on accuracy of information.
