WK 1. Why are you taking this class? - Hanane Ben abdeslam

Since I started my study “Communication” in The Netherlands, I was more interested in the developments of our society instead of putting a brand on the market. But unfortunately, I couldn’t specialize in this area, so when I saw this course on the list, I knew that I had to take this course. The world is constantly changing. In recent decades our society has developed from a homogenous, orderly and stable society to a society with enormous variety and diversity. This means what is necessary for society, for the groups of people who are part of it. Beside getting more interested in the society, I also want to understand more of someone’s perspective of a situation, person, idea and others. To discuss this with my fellow students, I really wonder how they think of a topic and what their opinion is. That’s why I like to discuss things with people because everyone has their own point of view.

Last but not least, I also find the “Wikipedia” assignment really interesting and, that we would write a Wikipedia page, in our own words and with our own conclusions because in my home country it was more of a no-go to get your sources from Wikipedia and use it in your papers. For me it is really weird to use Wikipedia as a source because I know that anyone can edit and that there are many people who just want to fool around. Therefore, I still think that Wikipedia is a non-reliable source and maybe it will change my mind after this class…

  1. I thought exactly the same thing about Wikipedia. In Korea, It's undesirable to use Wikipedia as reference for your paper too. I wonder how our minds will change after this class.
