W3 Reading assignment - Woojin Jeong

Summary

The reading is talking about the efforts and history that Wikipedia has been written to create. The efforts and actions of many people, including Otlet and Jimmy Wales, have created today's Wikipedia. Wikipedia is also a product of technology.  Networks, computers, and so on are essential for Wikipedia to store vast amounts of information without the effort of conventional paper dictionaries. Wikipedia has continued to develop with a lot of effort. And I worried a lot for poor children all over the world who couldn't even buy an encyclopedia Britannica. And ultimately, Wikipedia allows people all over the world to edit and share information in their own language. This is essential in the international world. And through the internet connection, we can communicate with each other and let them know their own things.

What was interesting about this article is the history of Wikipedia. I thought Wikipedia was just an Internet encyclopedia that came out of nowhere. But after reading the story of history about being 'Wikipedia', I realized that my thoughts were wrong. There were many people's struggles and hardships before Wikipedia was created.

Summary Wikipedia is a multilingual online encyclopedia as an collaboration project. It isn't made by one people. Anyone can write and share information. It is maintained by non profit organizations. It is the largest and most popular  general reference work on the World Wide Web, and is one of the 20 most popular websites. Diverse information can be found in encyclopedia. Interesting point Wikipedia is made by group. All people in group can share their own information. Not only expert, but also anyone who have interest in topic, they can participate in make dictionary. I had a negative opinion about this in past, because this can affect on accuracy of information. But, after I realized that  this is "collaboration" project, many people can give a feedback to writers who post wrong information.
