Why is Wikipedia less popular in South Korea than in most other developed countries?
Among the websites of all countries, Google is the 1st and YouTube is the 2nd. Wikipedia ranks 15th overall.
In South Korea, Google is the most popular website, Naver is the 2nd and YouTube is the third most popular website. What Web sites do developed countries usually use? I searched Germany as a representative of developed countries. Germany's most popular website Google. Youtube is 2nd and Wikipedia is 6th.
So Why is Wikipedia less popular in South Korea than in most other developed countries? I think so. Wikipedia can be translated into 290 languages, but the original is English. When I use it, it is translated into Korean by itself, but there are some parts that I can't easily understand. However, most developed countries can get information more conveniently because English is the official language.
Then I wondered why Korea uses Naver a lot. According to the survey, the majority of respondents said they use Naver portals because of their familiar usage. However, instead of searching the same topic in Korean on Naver, you can get much better information in most cases if you search in English on Google.
I've seen this kind of writing before. "Naver focuses on 'providing' information, Google focuses on 'finding' information," I agree it. Because if you search for information on Google, there are much fewer ads than Naver. That doesn't mean Google doesn't have any ads at all. Google processes the information well so that many people can visit, and if you upload it, Google naturally ranks up the search results. It is then a virtuous circle in which more people visit and more people visit, increasing advertising revenue. Also, I think there is a lot of inaccurate information and the source of the "지식인" who can be called Naver representative is unclear.

I also thought about this question that Why is Wikipedia less popular in South Korea than in most other developed countries? Honestly there are also many websites higher than Wikipedia in China.I think it's more convenient than other Wikipedia websites, because in China, you have to use VPN to read Wikipedia.
