W2. Why do you think people find editing Wikipedia fun? / Lee Se Hyun (LATE POSTING - ADDED)
Why do you think people find editing Wikipedia fun?
It is because
he wrote for a non-profit purpose. This is similar to the achievement people
feel when they go to volunteer work. I think the joy of being helpful to
others when you write a story with the pure purpose of helping others, not the
purpose of profit, is the joy of being able to edit Wikipedia is edited. I
think this is the biggest reason.
It is also not
an obligation. Wikipedia would not have succeeded if it had hired editors and
rewarded them every time they were required to edit. The sense of achievement
that one feels when doing something voluntarily is more incomparable than the
sense of achievement that one feels obliged to do. People expect to find
editing interesting because voluntary participation has provided a high sense
of accomplishment.
