Why is Wikipedia less popular in South Korea than in most other developed countries?
It was not a familiar concept in Korean society that ordinary people wrote and provided encyclopedic-level information to the public. The encyclopedia was provided by a group of experts and information sharing by the public was done through compensation.
Many search sites, such as Naver and Daum, had systems to reward ordinary people for providing information. A case in point is Naver's "Knowledge-in." When A asks about information, B replies to information and receives compensation. Since this system has been around for a long time, I think Wikipedia, which has no reward, is exotic and has difficulty accessing it. Therefore, Wikipedia has a slow start in Korea and I think it will be less popular than other countries.
