W3. Reading assignment / Lee Se Hyun
Summary
Wikipedia is
not a traditional encyclopedia. It is a community and an encyclopedia. Not just
one expert writing information, a large number of people writing information.
This is cooperation. Wikipedia has five principles. Public content,
transparency, integrity, nondiscriminatory, noninterference. These did not
appear easily. There has been a lot of effort and history to establish five
principles. Many trials and errors have been experienced to
develop their policies and Technology. Thanks to
these trials and errors, Wikipedia won the title of 'Free Encyclopedia for
Anyone to Edit' and was able to grow into a community, not an encyclopedia.
Interesting point
It was amazing
that Wikipedia had gone through many trials and errors to get here, and it was
interesting that the concept of collective intelligence was not recently
introduced. Wikipedia has many different policies and participants. Language
diversity increases and participants increase as well. Wouldn't it be better to
describe Wikipedia as a society, not a community?
