W4. Free culture Yeonjae Kim 김영재

10years ago, people didn't consider about copyright in korea. They just listened to music online for free and watched movie, tv show for free. But now, people listen to music by online streaming service and watch movie from the Netflix or etc.

People are changed. The reason is developing of technology I think. 10years ago, people didn't pay their money to download music or movie. Because they could get music and movie for free very easily. Of course we can get music and movie for free now, but It is more comfortable that just pay some money and get music or movie 'legally'. We don't need to try to find some free music or movie, but just pay.

It is also important that people's mind is changed. However I think the developing of technology is also important.

  1. I agree on your opinion that both changes in technology and mind are important in how people care about copyrights. Back then, the people were so called, the 'digital immigrants', who weren't exposed to the digital culture when they were kid but they got familiar with it as they grew. So, people in those times thought that digital assets are kind of 'free for all'. But people who buys most of digital products are the people who lived through their life with the digital machines. They are called as the 'digital natives'. Since they had more time to learn about how to make the digital norms more healthy, they just know that getting a product without paying is wrong, even if it is in the digital world. This familiarity rate of digital society was possible because of the development of technology. No babies could be called the digital natives, if they couldn't get the smartphone cheap enough to be commercialized.
