W4. Reading assignment / Lee Se Hyun
Summary
Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia that anyone
can edit. This article describes Wikipedia's policy to solve
problems and problems caused by high openness. Wikipedia operates on the basis of five
principles. Public content, transparency, integrity, anti-discrimination and
non-interference are Wikipedia's principles. These principles made Wikipedia a
successful encyclopedia.
The
five principles make Wikipedia a free encyclopedia that anyone can edit, while
at the same time causing problems. It is a problem due to openness. Wikipedia
is described as a successful result of a community, collaboration. But they are
encyclopedias. What Wikipedia is aiming for is a quality encyclopedia. There is
a possibility that malicious editors will manipulate information and create
conflicts between editors. How should Wikipedia deal with it?
The
answer lies in Wikipedia's Five Principles. Wikipedia manages conflicts through
five principles. Managers manage conflicts by giving people autonomy within the
rules without directly addressing them. A really malicious editor blocks ip
through an ip trace. In this way, Wikipedia has created a possible position to
present the title "Free Encyclopedia for Anyone to Edit."
Interesting point
I am deeply impressed that Wikipedia manages, not resolves, conflicts. This solution can be described as "looking at the forest without looking at the trees." Wikipedia is obliged to provide the right information as an encyclopedia. It will want to resolve the conflict as soon as possible. But Wikipedia manages conflict. It induces neutral values by giving people autonomy through management. This is a management method that should be introduced into modern society. Before the fourth industrial revolution began in earnest, I am interested in Wikipedia, which introduced innovative management methods.
Question
Can Wikipedia's management method be applied to Korean society? Where can you apply it if possible?
