W4. Reading assignment - Seungju Lee

In Wikipedia, anyone who interest in making a dictionary can participate in. But because of free characteristics of Wikipedia, many problems can be existed. In the process of cooperation and participating wiki project, conflict between group members or with other groups can be caused.

To solve this problem, Wikipedia has five important rules, which is called 5 pillars. These rules focus on “administrating” conflict rather than solving conflict.
First, having the quality of information. Second, neutral point of view, which is called NPOV. Third, free content for anyone available to edit. Fourth, respect and have good faiths on other Wikipedian, and finally, remembering that Wikipedia does not have a strict rule.

With these rules, people can share information peaceful without any problem.

On the one hand, Wikipedia is famous for openness. But this characteristic can be make a problem. So I think keeping balance with closeness is also important.

From this reading, I got a new perspective on conflict. I thought conflict between people always should be solved. But in reality, solving conflict perfectly is very difficult. So, administrating conflict is very important. And, I thought Wikipedia doesn’t have any rules, because anyone can use it freely. But, after I know that rules are exist in Wikipedia, I think these rules are the driving force behind Wikipedia's continuation.
