W5-2 How can wikipedia works as non-profit organization? YeongJae Kim

 When I watched my lecture of wikipedia and did my wiki assignment, some question arose. I heard the Wikipedia is non-profit organization which means they don't make some money by Wikipedia. Then how Wikipedia works? Thanks to voluntary editors, wiki pages are made and released for free to all. And also there are not any commercial advertisement in Wikipedia. However to maintain server of Wiki page and to hire engineers, Wikipedia should need money.

 So I searched at google how can Wikipedia works as non-profit organization. According to the search Wikipedia works by donation just like some non-profit museum. Unfortunately Wikipedia doesn't accept donations in Korea so I can't know details about Wikipedia donation.

 It is interesting that the huge website just like Wikipedia works by donations. But in one side, many people donate big money to streamers. So there's nothing wrong with Wikipedia's situation i think.

    Wikipedia's information will be accumulated in the way that each person's knowledge is gathered and large knowledge is created. Each person has a field of interest, a field of expertise, and such people donate their knowledge to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a representative Internet encyclopedia that explains the word "collectiveity."

W2. What is Wikipedia - Seungju Lee

Summary Wikipedia is a multilingual online encyclopedia as an collaboration project. It isn't made by one people. Anyone can write and share information. It is maintained by non profit organizations. It is the largest and most popular  general reference work on the World Wide Web, and is one of the 20 most popular websites. Diverse information can be found in encyclopedia. Interesting point Wikipedia is made by group. All people in group can share their own information. Not only expert, but also anyone who have interest in topic, they can participate in make dictionary. I had a negative opinion about this in past, because this can affect on accuracy of information. But, after I realized that  this is "collaboration" project, many people can give a feedback to writers who post wrong information. Summary   Wikipedia's culture includes the topics of Wikipedia and the Wikipedia community, Joseph M. Reagle Jr. The 2010 book. This book was first published on August 27, 2010 through MIT Press and has a preface to Lawrence Lessig.   This book is an ethnographic study of Wikipedia's history, practical and theoretical pioneers, and culture, including consensus and collaboration practices. This book is described as a pioneering ethnographic study of Wikipedia culture.
