Between an authorial leader and a dictator



We all know that Wiki was started from ‘collective intelligence and community spirit’, but there was someone who did not think like that. After I read that Sanger launched more expert-friendly encyclopedia, I realized that Sanger might misunderstand the basic idea os Wikipedia (at that time, it called Nupeida).


He said that he needed to understand how open, and decentralized project works. I agree that, because sometimes a thing people called ‘leadership’ can be changed to ‘dictatorship’. 
It is more usual in big community. With having nickname, someone prove how much they contribute to the community and get more power or influence. This truly happens in Cafes (in Korea, there are millions of communities and we call it ‘Cafe’.) and hobby clubs.

Why it happens? We still do not understand the slight differentiation between leader and dictator. We even do not know about ‘gentle dictator’ because this kind of dictators does not show any typical dictator features. Leadership is close to supporting someone. 

A leader can give advice to group to avoid worse situation, and provide opinion consider to development of the community. However, a dictator tries to control the community. He still gives an opinion to group, but it has more power than leader’s, because of his followers. He cares only what he thinks right.

How we can distinct two types of people- a dictator and a leader? Can we set any rules to identify them?

W2. What is Wikipedia - Seungju Lee

Summary Wikipedia is a multilingual online encyclopedia as an collaboration project. It isn't made by one people. Anyone can write and share information. It is maintained by non profit organizations. It is the largest and most popular  general reference work on the World Wide Web, and is one of the 20 most popular websites. Diverse information can be found in encyclopedia. Interesting point Wikipedia is made by group. All people in group can share their own information. Not only expert, but also anyone who have interest in topic, they can participate in make dictionary. I had a negative opinion about this in past, because this can affect on accuracy of information. But, after I realized that  this is "collaboration" project, many people can give a feedback to writers who post wrong information. Summary   Wikipedia's culture includes the topics of Wikipedia and the Wikipedia community, Joseph M. Reagle Jr. The 2010 book. This book was first published on August 27, 2010 through MIT Press and has a preface to Lawrence Lessig.   This book is an ethnographic study of Wikipedia's history, practical and theoretical pioneers, and culture, including consensus and collaboration practices. This book is described as a pioneering ethnographic study of Wikipedia culture. Reagle's main paper was summed up with the claim that "Wikipedia's success may be less technical than the results of Wikipedia's community and their cultural norms."
