W6. Reading assignment / Lee Se Hyun
Summary
Wikipedia is a puzzle that fits people together. Puzzle puzzle with people all over the world causes many problems. Non-neutral perspectives on information, indiscriminate abuse of information and conflicts among people in providing information. This is a dangerous problem because of the nature of the informative encyclopedia. In order to make up for this, Wikipedia presented various efforts. Solving through the development of technology, mediating through unauthoritative managers, communicating among people, providing diverse perspectives of information, but the most effective effort was Wikipedia itself. We solved the problem through strong collaboration. People of pure purpose solved the problem on their own, and achieved successful results. Wikipedia is an innovative model that has emerged within the capitalist system and an exemplary model for everyone to choose from. People should be recommended a cooperative system that begins with good faith, not a competitive system caused by selfishness.
Interesting point
Wikipedia has an uncertain future. A person's mind is unpredictable, and selfishness is also unpredictable and uncontrollable. So Wikipedia, where everyone can edit, has an uncertain future. This is the criticism of Wikipedia. But what about Wikipedia at this point? Although it has been criticized a lot in the past, Wikipedia is an unusual success model in the world. It stimulated people's pure motives and made them as cooperative as possible. Good-faith cooperation has made Wikipedia the world's largest encyclopedia. It is a sensational model and should be applied not only to Wikipedia but also to the social system. By abandoning the neoliberal model and choosing a cooperative model, society should take a step further. Collaborative models have only positive effects. It is hoped that the existing culture of alienation, polarization of wealth, hatred and discrimination will disappear. But criticism exists within the cooperative model. Selfishness, the nature of a person's survival, will not easily disappear. The problem with Wikipedia is a typical example. If we find a way to properly control people's selfishness like Wikipedia, we will be close to the ideal that many sociologists, such as Clears and Weber, have claimed.
Question
Before the Great Depression, many countries had strong welfare tendencies. However, neo-liberalism was adopted and many things changed due to the Great Depression. I think neoliberalism has hit its limit as society develops. I think the government's policy to solve the problem is a stopgap measure. Thus, the system must be changed. I think the system is a cooperative system like Wikipedia. What do you think of this? Is there a better way?
