Week 4 | Reading | Lee Jaeseong
Summary
Chapter 3
Collaboration
exists between other related concepts such as conflict resolution and conflict
management. In this article, we say “collaboration is the process of shared
creation”.
In principle,
the Wikipedia norm has three levels of authority. (Essay, unofficial pages,
viable norms)
Wikipedia
requires quality of information. Wikipedia should be written from a neutral
point of view (NPOV) Wikipedia is free content that anyone can edit. In
Wikipedia, the 'good faith’ is important. Also, Wikipedia has no mandatory
rules.
Chapter 4
Trolls are the
driving force behind Wikipedia. The worst trolls are often the best editors.
Wikipedia, whether you log in or not, has access to editing, and a lot of
editorial engagement will help make a great encyclopedia.
This chapter
tells stories about the open content community. Also mentioning FOSS. In other
words, this chapter talks about the openness of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a
leading open content community. The characteristics of this are as follows.
1. Open
Content: Contents available under license
2.
Transparency: Provide processes, rules, decisions and grounds
3. Integrity:
Ensuring process integrity and participant contribution
4.
Nondiscrimination: No discrimination against the community
5.
Noninterference: “The core of openness”
Intersting
Point
Wikipedia really has a lot of information. The source was
an open content community. Through this reading, I realized that what anyone
can use and edit is the key to the success of modern Wikipedia. In addition, Wikipedia
sees those who write false information, also called "trolls," as
never bad. It's called Good Faith. In my case, I think these trolls might be a
little upset. In that sense, Wikipedia seems quite generous.
Discussion
What do you think about Wikipedia Trolls? I don't think
it's easy to look positive even if they edit with good intentions. After all,
Wikipedia is an "an encyclopedia" using collective intelligence and
accurate information delivery comes first.
However, it is certain that such editorial efforts will create more information. What do you think?

I totally agree that good editors can create more information, just like collective intelligence.
