Free culture and remix culture
Free culture movement is a movement to
ensure freedom to distribute and modify other people's creative works; this is
opposed to limited copyright laws. The reason is that copyright laws do not
allow people to easily share content by extending the copyright deadline.
Free music movement, part of the free culture movement, was developed on the web, which brought about the question of how prosperous creativity would be during the development of a profit-making model in the Internet era for musician.
Free culture movement and Remix culture are
connected because there was an attempt to make derivative works using free
sources in free culture. Combining elements gives the work originality. Because
people have become contributors for this remix culture, it could be flourish. Consumers
who participate in this culture are re-creating arts and contents, and
consumers are becoming producers. Remix culture created an environment where it
is impossible to monopolize content.
Free culture and remixculture can be easily
found in our lives. For example, my favorite YouTube creators, named Gwana, makes
that a combination of cooking and singing; his work has uploaded on YouTube,
and many people reinterpret and share his content.
This is Gwana’s content, <Do you know
that?> (https://youtu.be/n0oBBQoE06g)
and this is another youtuber’s content that interpret and re-created original
content. (https://youtu.be/sGhbo0jHgfs)
Free culture makes people use their personal experiences to make one content
into several, and several content can also be interpreted by others.
Here is my question: If free remixed culture
is more activated, wouldn't there be more content thieves? (Content Thieves:
The people who copies and posts content at places like YouTube so make profits.)

I also think that the more active this culture is, the more copyright problems will arise. There certainly exists merit, but I don't think this cultural activity can be free on this issue. I think we should consider the two pros and cons well.
