W7. Good Faith Collaboration / Juhee Cha

Good Faith Collaboration deals with praise and harsh criticism of Wikipedia's way of collaboration, introducing Wikipedia's history, culture and many controversies. The book tells the background of Wikipedia's growth through cooperative culture. One can see the advantages of Wikipedia, why it is criticized, and why it predicts success.

I thought it was a 'cooperative culture' that Wikipedia has been able to grow so far. Everyone becomes a voluntary information donor. The growth of Wikipedia proves that we have cooperated in good faith. I think the reason why Wikipedia was not trusted is because someone can maliciously edit articles using anonymity. But the continued development of Wikipedia's information proves that good-faith cooperation is taking place. Also, we, who listen to the lecture and edit articles, will join in the well-intentioned cooperation in the future and become information donors.

  1. You are right. No matter how bad attempt would harm the good will, people didn't stop making good result. That's how today's societies were made, and same goes for Wikipedia. What we should be careful about is that overwhelming trust of oneself can result biased decisions. We need to be always be alert of the outside world, but also the inside world; myself.
