W7. Good faith collaboration - Woojin Jeong


This book contains everything about how Wikipedia has been going so far.  Including systems of website and collaboration process with each other. I have read some parts of the book about Wikipedia so far. I had thought Wikipedia was just a normal encyclopedia like others. But I was wrong. It was not a normal encyclopedia. It is exactly 'the collective intelligence'. And it is combination with people who are from all over the world. So it could be said Wikipedia is the cultural combination too. Therefore there are all kinds of people in editing information on Wikipedia. So there must be several controversies by being together. For example, some people who do not agree with my opinion. So the information that I add on Wikipedia could be deleted by them. In addition to this, there could be a malicious person who wants to spoil the environment of Wikipedia. Because of these people there are always crisis that couldn't even expected. But there are also people who have good faith. By them, Wikipedia can be running. I've experienced that my opinion on Wikipedia was deleted by someone. At the moment, I was a little bit annoyed. But now I can understand. They might have been people who have good faith. Maybe I think my opinion was wrong.

Summary Wikipedia is a multilingual online encyclopedia as an collaboration project. It isn't made by one people. Anyone can write and share information. It is maintained by non profit organizations. It is the largest and most popular  general reference work on the World Wide Web, and is one of the 20 most popular websites. Diverse information can be found in encyclopedia. Interesting point Wikipedia is made by group. All people in group can share their own information. Not only expert, but also anyone who have interest in topic, they can participate in make dictionary. I had a negative opinion about this in past, because this can affect on accuracy of information. But, after I realized that  this is "collaboration" project, many people can give a feedback to writers who post wrong information.
