W9. Wikipedia's culture & Wikipedia in culture / Lee Se Hyun
Summary
As Wikipedia grew, Wikipedia was mentioned
in various cultural areas. This article shows Wikipedia referenced in various
areas. There are no restrictions in the cultural realm of comedy, music,
magazines, clothing, cartoons, literature, mail, news and television. It also
appears in politics. Wikipedia references in various areas prove that Wikipedia
has a lot of influence on society. These
comments about Wikipedia coexist with praise and criticism. For example, in
Simpson, the character Lisa tries to learn more by using Wikipedia after
discovering the witch's Coven. This shows Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that is
familiar and accessible to people and has high information diversity. This
speaks of Wikipedia's strengths. Also in the BBC News Quiz, Alan Coren
mentioned the mistakes he made in Wikipedia, which shows Wikipedia's chronic
problems.
Interesting point
Unlike Korea, it was amazing that Wikipedia
has a great influence in Western society. In Korea, Wikipedia is not very popular.
It does not receive attention in various fields such as TV programs, media, and
fashion. So why is Korea different from Western society? As I mentioned before,
over a long period of time, Wikipedia's culture and mismatches would have
occurred, familiarizing itself with rewards for providing information like
Naver Knowledgein, presenting a cooperative model. My argument was proved in
Korean academic papers. I also think that Wikipedia is unpopular because of its
low readability. If you look at Korean Internet sites, they value high
readability. seek design excellence and high readability On the other hand,
Wikipedia doesn't think it has high readability. Koreans who have become
accustomed to high readability have become less likely to prefer Wikipedia, resulting
in a low utilization rate.
Question
What should Wikipedia do to fully settle
down in Korean society?
