W9. Wikipedia Culture & Wikipedia in Culture - Youngryun,Chun
1. Summary
2. What interesting
3. Discussion
I explored Wikipedia holidays among the
categories of Wikipedia culture. Wikipedia Holiday is a day designated by Jimbo
Wales to honor those who have made important contributions to Wikipedia.
First of all, Brion Vibber's Day is on June
1, and celebrates the work of Brion Viber, the developer of Wikipedia. It
started in 2004, and was created with people appreciating his project. Justin
Knapp's Day was designated April 20. It was created to celebrate Justin Knapp's
1 million edits and allow many people to learn.
Magnus Mansuke's Day is also Jan. 25, which
commemorates the day when Wikipedia was converted into second-phase software in
2002. This transition has come as important to Wikipedia, and it is the day
Wikipedia meets a new era of software. Oct. 31 is Team Starling Day. Tim
Staring provided Wikipedia with a new algorithm, which made people convenient.
Wikipedia is used not only as an
encyclopedia but also as a character characteristic and cultural factor. In the
comedy show, the newly coined word "wikality" using Wikipedia's
characteristics appeared. People said the word was more of a consensus-based
truth than a fact. Wikipedia's information is defined through people's
opinions, so intuition and empathy reflect reality rather than facts. Wikipedia
has been used and appeared in various contents such as other movies,
literature, and music.
2. What interesting
What I felt most about Wikipedia's culture
was that Wikipedia is not just an encyclopedia. In particular, I was surprised
that I explored Wikipedia's holiday and contain not only heavy and not serious
content, but also various and light content. Wikipedia's holiday was very
fresh.
3. Discussion
I wonder how Wikipedia will be used in the
content business in the future.
Hi, this is Woojin. I think your article is impressive to me! I also wonder how Wikipedia is used in contents of business world in the future. Maybe Wikipedia will also be changed a lot right? Wii it be still only an encyclopedia? I wonder!
