W9. Wikipedia in culture / Juhee Cha

1.Summary
As Wikipedia's usefulness grew, Wikipedia also had a great impact on Western culture. It uses Wikipedia as a reference work, positively compares intelligence to Wikipedia, or is not even used as an encyclopedia, but as a character or game. There are also cases where Wikipedia symbolizes status. It also criticizes or parodies Wikipedia's openness and affects other cultures. Wikipedia has had enough impact to be found in context, politics, comedy and food sources.

2.Interresting Point
I realized that Wikipedia had a lot of influence on Western culture. However, there are times when culture mocks Wikipedia's inaccuracies. Not only will this damage Wikipedia's image, but it will also likely cause many people to question Wikipedia's accuracy. I thought that Wikipedia influenced culture and influenced culture again influenced Wikipedia. When I watch Wikipedia, I feel like I'm watching our society.

3.Discussion
But I don't think Wikipedia's influence is that great in Korean society. Do you agree with me? How does Wikipedia affect our Korean society?

Comments

  1. I agree with you. Wikipedia has yet to exert great influence in Korea, and more frankly, it seems that there are some cases where Wikipedia itself is not recognized. Isn't it because Korea's Internet culture has developed through its own portal sites such as daum and naver?
