Week 10 | Remix Culture | Lee Jaeseong

1. Summary
Remix culture is a society that allows and encourages derivatives by combining or editing existing materials to create new creations or products. The remix culture is basically allowing efforts to improve, change, integrate, or otherwise remix the work of copyright holders.
For the remix culture to survive, it must be shared and created by others. In other words, it should develop into a participatory culture.
This remix culture applies to various fields, including folklore, graphic art, books and software. Wikipedia is also an example of Seomyeon remix. The public is encouraged to add knowledge to this encyclopedia. In particular, recently, the culture of remixing gif files has developed through the Internet community.
This, too, could be subject to copyright law. However, current copyright laws are not very effective in preventing content sampling.

2. Interesting Point
I like to see the gif file and I also like to make gif file. So I was interested in this document as a whole. When I first heard the word about remix culture, I knew what it meant. I also thought that I should pay attention to copyright when I make gif files.

3. Discussion Do you think remix culture is a copyright violation? Or do you think it's the realm of re-creation?

Comments

  1. I think, strictly speaking, remix culture is infringement of copyright .
However, the copyright holder usually acquiesces to it because there is a benefit from people's participation in re-creation.
