W-Extra. “To expand online democracy?” / Kim Seon Woo

Summary

The way we collaborate with Wikipedia is at the heart of heated discussions. Just as reference works can inspire passionate devotion to contributors, they can also inspire passionate imbalances. In 2004, Michael Gorman, former chairman of the American Library Association, wrote opposition to criticize Google and its book-scanning project. He was surprised by the negative online response to his work, but after a couple of years he doubled the attack. In 2007, we focused on blogs and wiki encyclopedias to explain the impact of "digital tsunami" on learning. In a blog essay titled "Jabberwiki", Gorman praised Sanger's abandonment of Wikipedia to more professional, friendly citizens and criticized those who continue to contribute or use Wikipedia.

Interesting Point.

 We know that Wikipedia's core power is in discussion. The corona virus crisis has activated the face-to-face era. At this time, we should lead this to the expansion of the participation of collective democracy.

Summary Wikipedia is a multilingual online encyclopedia as an collaboration project. It isn't made by one people. Anyone can write and share information. It is maintained by non profit organizations. It is the largest and most popular  general reference work on the World Wide Web, and is one of the 20 most popular websites. Diverse information can be found in encyclopedia. Interesting point Wikipedia is made by group. All people in group can share their own information. Not only expert, but also anyone who have interest in topic, they can participate in make dictionary. I had a negative opinion about this in past, because this can affect on accuracy of information. But, after I realized that  this is "collaboration" project, many people can give a feedback to writers who post wrong information. Summary   Wikipedia's culture includes the topics of Wikipedia and the Wikipedia community, Joseph M. Reagle Jr. The 2010 book. This book was first published on August 27, 2010 through MIT Press and has a preface to Lawrence Lessig.   This book is an ethnographic study of Wikipedia's history, practical and theoretical pioneers, and culture, including consensus and collaboration practices. This book is described as a pioneering ethnographic study of Wikipedia culture. Reagle's main paper was summed up with the claim that "Wikipedia's success may be less technical than the results of Wikipedia's community and their cultural norms."
