W-Extra. “Wikipedia I met for one semester.” / Kim Seon Woo

During the last semester, I met Professor Wikipedia while attending Professor Peter's major. As I edited it, it was both difficult and difficult. However, in the process of sharing information and discussing with many people, I was able to further develop my knowledge. We had a hard time experiencing the corona virus, but once again, I think humanity is making progress. If we overcome this situation wisely, we can face a slightly better future. What was Wikipedia for you? Let's discuss it last.

W2-1. About someone using that result of collective intelligence for commercial / Dayoung Ryu, 류다영

If a result of collective intelligence is free,  what do you think about someone using that result of collective intelligence for commercial? After we watch the lecture video of ‘Why Wikipedia?’, we all know that Wikipedia is free for everyone. I think the reason how Wikipedia can collect intelligence for free is Wikipedia is supported by Wikimedia Foundation, which is NPO. However, what if there is a group does not have any support foundation? I have thought about this question long time. Nowadays, there are a lot of groups made by only few people to publish, spread, and share their good ideas and ideologies. Let’s says this kind of group named ‘GOOD’. The members of ‘GOOD’ are only four, and they have a nice idea. They try to share this idea with more people, so they make a web page and upload about the idea. People find the web-page of ‘GOOD’. WK 10.2 Reading Remix Culture - Hanane Ben Abdeslam

The remix culture is also known as read-write culture, this is known as a society that allows and encourages derivative works by combining or editing existing materials to produce a new creative work or product. A remix culture would be, by default, permissive of efforts to improve upon, change, integrate, or otherwise remix the work of copyright holders. While combining elements has always been a common practice of artists of all domains throughout human history, the growth of exclusive copyright restrictions in the last several decades limits this practice more and more by the legal chilling effect. Furthermore, the Creative Commons where invented in 2001 by Lessig, which released licenses as tools to enable remix culture again, as remixing is legally prevented by the default exclusive copyright regime applied currently on intellectual property. The remix culture for cultural works is related to and inspired by the earlier free and open-source software for software movement, which e...

WK 4.2 Reading The puzzle of openness - Hanane Ben Abdeslam

The main idea behind an encyclopedia is to give the opportunity and capability to anyone who wants to gain access to information, with the desire to learn from it. A long time ago an encyclopedia only became possible with universal access to its service. However, Wikipedia opened in 2000 with the purpose to give free and open sources to the world. But since Wikipedia is grown into the most used web search, it has advantages and disadvantages, which made people disagree with each other. Wikipedia’s purpose is to be the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. But what does ‘openness’ and ‘anyone’ mean? Anyone is mostly reverting to community, a group of independent people who participate together in discussion and decision making and who share certain practices, in this case, editing on the same Wikipedia article. Feeling free to edit on the same article is a meaning of open content, which provides content that is available under licenses like those that satisfy the “Open Source Definit...
