Wikipedia is the largest and most popular general reference site on the web, anyone can contribute. But how do you start? Here we take a look.
Wikipedia is one of the most popular websites in the world and is always looking for new volunteer contributors. Most importantly, it is not easy to become a complicated process. In this article, you will learn how to become a Wikipedia contributor and what it means. In this way, you will have a better understanding of the daily work of Wikipedia.
Wikipedia is the largest and most popular general reference website on the web. The website (and many of its sub-sites) is owned and operated by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation and can be supported in more than 300 languages through various platforms, including a large number of mobile applications. Perhaps Wikipedia has been so popular for nearly 20 years because it continues to rely on the community of volunteer contributors or so-called Wikipedians.
According to the statistics of Wikipedia Statistics, between March 2018 and February 2019, the properties of the site were viewed 19.19 billion times. Among them, there are many views from the United States. Considering that Wikipedia's English page is 5.8 million pages, and its ranking is 1.51 million pages, this makes sense. 2 Spanish.
As of March 2019, English Wikipedia has more than 141,000 editors who have edited at least once in the past 30 days. These contributors range from experts and scholars to regular Wikipedia readers. About half of these active editors spend at least one hour a day editing, and one-fifth spend more than three hours a day editing the same.
There are many reasons for you to consider becoming a registered Wikipedia contributor. Interestingly, many of them have nothing to do with actually editing or adding new pages to the site. Conversely, having a registered Wikipedia account can unleash key readership benefits that you may not be aware of.
You do not have to be a registered user of Wikipedia to edit the pages on the site. In this case, your IP address will be displayed. Unregistered users can perform almost everything registered users can do, including editing articles, participating in discussion page discussions, and contributing to site strategy recommendations.
Unfortunately, if you are not registered and share the same external IP (for example, at a school or through a corporate network), you may be blocked due to the actions of other people on the system.
If you do become a registered user of Wikipedia, you will have a permanent user page where you can write some information about yourself. You can also use this page to display pictures, write down your interests, etc. Registered users also have a permanent chat page (see below), which you can use to communicate with other users. Finally, because your IP address is not displayed, the registered user cannot be identified.
When you are a registered user of Wikipedia, you will have a fixed identity that other users can recognize. In time, this allows you to build trust and respect through a good editorial history. Wikipedia also rewards registered users for their outstanding work by awarding so-called Barnstars, project awards, and individual user awards. As the account ages successfully, you can gain more privileges, such as rollback, sysop/administrator, etc.
