W7. GFC book review - Gyongmin Moon, 문경민

The book introduces the way Wikipedia functions, what causes trouble, what we should develop, and how Wikipedians should behave through historical and ethnographical study. The writer Joesph M. Reagle demonstrates his view and real insights that happened and is happening in Wikipedia through 8 chapters. The book talks about how Wikipedia can benefit people's society, and also how it might harm the way of living. While also showing how Wikipedia's vision is hesitated by people and also how it is being developed by people. The book contains a sense of anthem for mankind, delivering the message that good-faith collaboration is somewhat of a hard thing to achieve due to our natural born traits, but also strongly believe that someday, it can be achieved only with the hands of us, human.

Any collaborative work that doesn't directly benefit the contributing individuals has to go through the same troubles as Wikipedia does. And when the anonymity is added to it, a burning hell on Earth can be found. Some might try to benefit the group that they belong to by writing articles in a biased way, some might try to deceive others just for fun, some might try to delete information for their own purpose, and we know that this can happen all the time. Believing in others in a situation like this is a very hard thing. But, even so, without believing others, Wikipedia couldn't have existed. I learned that the existence of Wikipedia is the evidence of our good-faith collaboration. Like the line that is written in the book of Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea, man is not made for defeat, a man can be destroyed but not defeated, the vision of Wikipedia can be destroyed by someone, but it can never be defeated until there is a sense of good faith of collaboration in a single man's heart.
