Week 11 | Creative Commons | Lee Jaeseong

1. Summary Creative Commons is a global nonprofit organization that enables sharing and reuse of creativity and knowledge through the provision of free legal tools. CC licenses are copyright licenses, and depend on the existence of copyright to work. Copyright  grants to creators a bundle of exclusive rights over their creative works, which generally include, at a minimum, the right to reproduce, distribute, display, and make adaptations.  Creative Commons is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice or legal services. The CC buttons are a shorthand way to convey the basic permissions associated with material offered under CC licenses. 2. Interesting Point I've seen a lot of Internet community postings with marks that explain here, but I didn't know exactly what they were doing. This document gives us a sense of what the mark is doing. 3. Discussion All writings, paintings, etc. are copyrighted. Do you agree with the Creative Commons movement?

W11. Creative Commons - Woojin Jeong

Summary Creative Commons is a global nonprofit organization enabling sharing and reuse of creativity and knowledge through the provision of free legal tools.  Creative Commons is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice or legal services. CC is similar to a self-help service that offers free, form-based legal documents for others to use. Moreover Creative Commons not only  provides copyright licenses  but also offers other legal and technical tools that also facilitate sharing and discovery of creative works. Interesting/Learned I was surprised and grateful that CC had a good influence on the expansion and development of creations on the Internet. I've never known there is great way to use reused contents legally with cc. Discuss Is there any other organization or community which provides legal service like CC?

W11) Reading assignment - Hyojung Park

Summary Creative Commons(CC) is a global nonprofit organization that provides free legal tools on copyright. Wikipedia Commons (WC) is a media repository where freely licensed materials are stored, created for the purpose of storing media used in the Wikimedia Foundation's projects. Both CC and WC were created for the purpose of sharing knowledge with more people. But there is a clear difference between them. CC is a license that allows the public to use copyright holders' works under certain circumstances, while copyright holder having their copyrights intact. CC allows for the registration of relatively diverse types of data. On the other hand, in WC, you can only upload freely licensed media files that allow commercial use and the creation of derivative works like the public domain. In addition, only 'media' files such as photos, scanned images, and video clips can be uploaded to WC. Interesting Point I've seen CC's icon before, but I didn't know ex...

W11. Creative Commons - Seungju Lee

1. Summary Creative Commons is a global nonprofit organization that enables sharing and reuse of creativity and knowledge through the provision of free legal tools. CC builds technical tools that help the public search for and use works licensed under our licenses and other legal tools, and many others have built such tools as well.   CC has affiliates all over the world who help ensure our licenses work internationally and who raise awareness of our work. Creative Commons licenses provide an easy way to manage the copyright terms that attach automatically to all creative material under copyright. Their licenses allow that material to be shared and reused under terms that are flexible and legally sound. 2. Interesting point As a person who is engaged in external activities in writing articles, I am careful in referring to other people's works and try to keep many regulations. In that sense, it occurred to me that the act of allowing this free sharing played an important ...

W11/ Commons:FAQ/ Lee Hayoung

Through this page, we can learn many things about Commons. First of all, I was confused by the previous article, wondering if Commons was run by a company or an individual. Reading this article, we can see that Commons is a media store that receives funding but is created and managed by volunteers. Commons thinks that we can help a lot more in producing and distributing media than we thought.

W11. Creative Commons / CAI MUBO

Creative Commons (CC) is a non-profit organization and the name of a series of flexible copyright authorization methods provided by the organization. The main purpose of the knowledge sharing organization is to make the work more widely circulated and repurposed, as a basis for others to create and share, and to ensure the above concepts with the authorization provided. An easy-to-understand one-page explanation of rights, with associated visual symbols, explains the specifics of each Creative Commons license. Creative Commons licenses do not replace copyright, but are based upon it. They replace individual negotiations for specific rights between copyright owner (licensor) and licensee, which are necessary under an "all rights reserved" copyright management, with a "some rights reserved" management employing standardized licenses for re-use cases where no commercial compensation is sought by the copyright owner. The result is an agile, low-overhead and low-cos...

W11. CC and WC / Dayoung Ryu 류다영

CC and WC The Creative Commons (CC) is a global nonprofit group founded to share knowledge and creativity using legal free tools. CC said that CC's vision is based on the potential of the Internet, and if you keep the appropriate rules, you can encourage others to use your work, or you can use others cc works, and you can enjoy some benefits through this work.  CC absolutely does not infringe copyright, and CC is rather a kind of copyright qualification, those who want to allow my work to be used by the public are licensed CC. A similar project exists in Wikipedia: Wikipedia Common (WC), a media repository that is being within Wikipedia, consisting of voluntary volunteers. WC provides free licenses media such as photographs, charts, animations, music, documents, and videos, and most of them are useful in Wikipedia. You can upload free copyright media or your original works to WC, and the media on WC can be used outside of Wikipedia. For this purpose, uploaded media ca...

(Extra credit)Can we think of some examples of how Internet has changed our culture?-Woojin Jeong

The Internet has made many changes in our daily lives. It brought about many changes, especially in cultural life. In the past, I had to go to a concert hall and listen to music or watch movies. However, the development of the Internet has allowed us to enjoy music and movies wherever we want.

W10-2 / Remix Culture / Kim Seon Woo

summary  A remix culture, sometimes a read-write culture, is a society that allows or encourages derivative works by combining or editing existing materials to create new creations or products. The remix culture is basically to allow copyright owners' efforts to improve, change, integrate, or remix in other ways. Combining elements has always been a common practice for artists in all areas of human history, but due to the increase in monopoly copyright restrictions over the past decades, these practices are becoming increasingly limited due to legal refrigeration effects.  Interesting Point  It is a culture that can be understood with the context of the Free Cultural Movement. At the heart of culture are influences and derivatives, which seem to be getting more and more limited, so it's heartbreaking. We must cry out for freedom! Copyright is important, but freedom and creation are more important!  Discussion  What are the ways to revitalize the remix...

W10-1 / Free Culture Movement / Kim Seon Woo

summary  The Free Culture Movement is a social movement that promotes freedom to distribute and modify creative works as free content using the Internet and other media. This movement opposes excessive copyright law. Many who participate in this movement claim that some restrictive copyright laws hinder creative action and call this system 'permission culture'.  Interesting Point  Copyright is an issue that can be very economically sensitive, but the courageous move against excessive regulation for 'creation', which is more important than that, was impressive. I think Wikipedia is a good example and a product of the free culture movement.  Discussion  What are the clear standards of excessive copyright law? Is there any fear of exploitation?

W11/ Creative Commons/ Lee Hayoung

Creative Commons is a global nonprofit organization that provides free legal tools to share and reuse creativity and knowledge. However, it does not provide legal advice or legal services because it is not a law firm. CC is similar to a self-help service that provides free form-based legal documents for others to use. I didn't know that such a non-profit organization existed, but I found out this time. Wouldn't we be able to use it a lot if we could get help related to copyright?

W11. Creative Commons - Yerim Han (한예림)

1.Summary Creative Commons is an NPO that provides free legal tools for works to share creativity, knowledge, and reuse. Creative Commons License (CC) provides tools for centralizing the public domain for owners within the copyright period and displaying work in public areas around the world. CC is a legal tool that rights holders can use to provide specific rights generally available and may retain other rights. The purpose of CC is to gain greater benefits by sharing ideas and forms created by various people. Creative Commons recognizes that copyright laws must be amended and is actively involved in the copyright reform movement. 2.Interesting/Learning point CC has been a great help in improving Wikipedia's creativity. However, it is a pity that there seem to be many cases of illegally reusing and reworking other people's works despite the reasonable tools of CC. 3. Discussion How can more people create their own creations using a rational tool called CC?

W11. Creative Commons - Gyongmin Moon, 문경민

When simply put, Creative Commons is an NPO that serves the role of assigning licenses to works that can be freely used without any extra permission. Many Wikis' articles are also deployed via variation of Creative Commons Licences including Wikipedia and even the Namuwiki of South Korea. Because it enables others to relatively-freely use the published work for their own purpose, it is sometimes deemed as if it is against copyright. But, this is rather a false opinion because Creative Commons License also depends on the work's copyright. The purpose of the Creative Commons License is to make the greater good by sharing ideas and format of works created by a diverse pool of people. So, it will be much easier to understand it by getting close to the term called copyleft. As I mentioned in my previous posting, I'm writing a Wikipedian article about open content. The open content is strongly related to Creative Commons License so I also edited some of CCL related articles i...

W11. Commons / Juhee Cha

1. Summary   Creative Commons is a global nonprofit organization that provides free legal tools, shares creativity and knowledge, and can be reused. This is best known for licenses, but extends beyond providing copyright licenses. CC provides tools to centralize public areas for copyright owners before the copyright ends and to show work in public areas around the world. The CC license is a copyright license and varies depending on whether there is a copyright to operate. CC licenses are legal tools generally available to authors and other rights holders to provide specific rights to use, and other rights can be reserved. Creative Commons recognize the need to revise copyright laws, and many members of the Creative Commons community are actively participating in the copyright reform movement. The following are the licenses to be used for files that upload Wikipedia: All files uploaded must be under a shared domain or a free license such as the GNU Free Documentation License or C...

W11. Reading Assignments - Youngryun, Chun

1. Summary Creative Commons is a global nonprofit organization that enables the sharing and reuse of knowledge through the provision of free legal tools. The organization encourages and helps reuse and creative use of works by providing information to be used on a generous basis. They are helping others realize the full potential of the Internet. They not only provide copyright but also provide other tools to facilitate the sharing and discovery of creative works. They are not against copyright laws and encourage people to use their work if they want to open it to the public. The CCL provides a way to manage copyright terms attached to creative materials belonging to copyright and allows the materials to be legally shared and reused. It includes copyright licenses as well as other rights copyrights such as voice recording rights. While editing Wikipedia, I was most curious about copyright. So, I read the questions about copyright in the second reading material presented. Wikipedi...

W10. Free culture and remix culture / CAI MUBO

The Free Culture Movement is a social movement that promotes the use of the Internet or other media to distribute and modify various types of free content works. This movement opposes the current excessively restrictive copyright laws. Many activists believe that such laws have hindered creativity, and call such a system a "licensed culture.” However, I think the free culture movement and the mixed culture are closely related because the mixed culture is also developing very well. Today, the free cultural movement is closely related to many other movements, such as hacker culture, knowledge without bounds movement, and Zuoquan movement.

Week 10 | Remix Culture | Lee Jaeseong

1. Summary Remix culture is a society that allows and encourages derivatives by combining or editing existing materials to create new creations or products. The remix culture is basically allowing efforts to improve, change, integrate, or otherwise remix the work of copyright holders. For the remix culture to survive, it must be shared and created by others. In other words, it should develop into a participatory culture. This remix culture applies to various fields, including folklore, graphic art, books and software. Wikipedia is also an example of Seomyeon remix. The public is encouraged to add knowledge to this encyclopedia. In particular, recently, the culture of remixing gif files has developed through the Internet community. This, too, could be subject to copyright law. However, current copyright laws are not very effective in preventing content sampling. 2. Interesting Point I like to see the gif file and I also like to make gif file. So I was interested in this documen...

Lawrence Lessig stands in front of a laptop that reads "Free Culture." Sourced by:  https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%EC%9E%90%EC%9C%A0_%EB%AC%B8%ED%99%94_%EC%9A%B4%EB%8F%99#/media/%ED%8C%8C%EC%9D%BC:Larry_lessig_etech05_050317.jpg Summary Free Culture Movement is a social movement that promotes freedom of distributing and modifying creative works as free content using the Internet and other media. The contrasting concepts are copyright and copyright. In other words, it is against excessively restrictive copyright laws. The movement began in the late 1960s when Stewart Brand founded Whole Earth Catalog. This background developed in 1998 when the Sonny Bono Copyright Extension Act, signed by President Clinton, was passed. One of the most representative organizations related to free culture is Creative Commons, founded by Lawrence Lessig. Other organizations include the QuestCopyRight organization, which emphasizes economic, artistic and social damage from distribution ...

W10 make up class) What did I learn while editing Wikipedia? / Dayoung Ryu 류다영

Editing hard, finding interesting point The task of editing Wikipedia was interesting: in fact, editing Wikipedia included finding out which areas I wanted to edit and which areas I was interested in. As we thought, this process was not easy, and one more difficult thing was that I knew nothing about Wikipedia’s editing. For me, Wikipedia was an encyclopedia that many people could edit. I never have edited something in Wikipedia, even though I could participate in Wikipedia. Because I did not want to edit anything, and I did not have time to edit it. So, I was happy because I could edit Wikipedia’s articles through this course. I thought this was a single-stone-two-birds (catch two birds with a stone) until there were so many Wikipedia tasks. Honestly, many students may have thought the same thing as me: editing Wikipedia is fun, but it takes a lot of time to edit. It took me more than twenty minutes to find some reliable sources, read the references, and pick out som...

Make up classes. What I've learned & How is it different from traditional assignment- Gyongmin Moon, 문경민

What did I learn while editing Wikipedia? How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments? Is it more fun? This is the first time that I contributed to Wikipedia, or any other encyclopedic platform. Before this semester, I've only experienced Namuwiki and Naver encyclopedia to get ideas for my advertising planning document. First, I thought that Wikipedia requires some kind of special and professional ability such as coding, but Wikipedia found to be rather easier than I've imagined. Even though I still don't know every feature in Wikipedia, I'm sure I now can at least be called as an apprentice Wikipedian. The source editing is still a bit tricky, but with the visual editing feature, I have confidence that I can make a whole article just by myself. I also learned that Wikipedia is a real active two-way communication platform. I knew that people could discuss with each other through the 'history' page, since I saw it in the Namuwi...

W.10 Remix Culture -Woojin Jeong

Summary Remix culture can be found in many areas of communication. Lawrence Lessig covered 'only read' and 'read/write' in his book. The former refers to reading content. And the latter means that the existing content is revised or reproduced by others.  The representative content of 'Read/Write' is Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a case where content is gathered and developed by others. These reproducible contents include user-generated content. Typically, these memes are indispensable in the Internet life of today's world. However, there is also a copyright issue for these played contents. People want to solve these strict copyright problems. This is because these reproducible contents can be a new creation, and there are cases where today's teenagers become criminals by copyright. Interesting/Learned The most interesting part was that students could be legally punished for content reproduction activities. I thought there would be no legal sanction because...

W10. Free culture movement and Remix culture - Youngryun Chun

1. Summary The Free Culture Movement is a social movement that promotes the freedom to distribute and modify other people's creations in the form of open content without compensation. This movement regards copyright law as undermining creativity. The organization associated with the Free Culture Movement is the Creative Commons (CC), founded by Lawrence Lesig. CC promotes the creation of cultural atmosphere, scientific progress and business innovation by sharing creative works and spreading ideas. This includes Amazon and student cultural activities. The Free Culture Movement embraces the ideals of the free and open-source software movement and extends it to all cultural and creative works in the software field. The remix culture, a read-write culture, is to allow new derivative works by combining or editing existing materials to create new creations. The remix culture basically allows efforts to improve, change and integrate copyright holders' work. Unlike the general re...

W10. Free culture movement & Remix culture - Gyongmin Moon, 문경민

Assigning copyright, or license to a work is a very important process. Without it, the creator's will to make new creation might be deterred because no matter how hard and long it took them to make the result, other people might copy it with a single click. But not everyone thinks that these kinds of restrictions are always good. In fact, too strict restrainment of copyright might harm the development of culture instead of assisting it. This is why the movement of free culture has appeared. The basic concept of free content, made by free culture movement, is to let the creators freely contribute to the content that has been already made by others. By doing so, it aims to create a deeper volume of content and a healthy virtuous circle in the content platform. Remix culture is a term inside the free culture, which allows people to freely combine or adjust already existing content and make a new one. Inspirations are very shy, and we will never know what kind of inspiration we might e...

W10. Free culture and remix culture / Dayoung Ryu, 류다영

Free culture and remix culture Free culture movement is a movement to ensure freedom to distribute and modify other people's creative works; this is opposed to limited copyright laws. The reason is that copyright laws do not allow people to easily share content by extending the copyright deadline. Free music movement, part of the free culture movement, was developed on the web, which brought about the question of how prosperous creativity would be during the development of a profit-making model in the Internet era for musician. Free culture movement and Remix culture are connected because there was an attempt to make derivative works using free sources in free culture. Combining elements gives the work originality. Because people have become contributors for this remix culture, it could be flourish. Consumers who participate in this culture are re-creating arts and contents, and consumers are becoming producers. Remix culture created an environment where it is impo...

W10-1. Free-culture Movement - Yerim Han (한예림)

1.Summary The Free Culture Movement is a social movement that advocates the freedom to modify and distribute works created by others in the form of free or public content without compensation or consent to producers. The movement is opposed on the grounds that overly restrictive copyright laws hinder creativity. Those who support copyright law by opposing forces oppose the free cultural movement to prevent media impersonation and protect the economic dignity of middle-class artists. 2.Learning / Interesting Point I was surprised by the existence of a free culture movement that argued that these strict copyright laws hurt the creativity of creators because I usually thought very important about the rights to work, and it served as an opportunity to change my position. 3.Discussion What are some ways to protect creators but not hurt their creativity?

W10-2. Remix Culture - Yerim Han (한예림)

1. Summary Remix culture is a culture that allows and encourages the creation of another creation or product through processing and combining existing materials. This culture basically allows efforts to improve and change or integrate copyright owners' work and remix it in different ways. For a long time, copyright monopoly has legally banned remixing other people's intellectual property, but licenses have allowed the remix culture to be revitalized. This culture is dominated by books, software and other digital products as well as art (people's folklore, graphic arts, music, and movies). 2. learning/interesting point In fact, I thought it was illegal to recreate it using someone's. But I was surprised that it was a legalized process through a tool called licensing. 3. Discussion Many Chinese illegally copy Korean entertainment shows. How can we protect our source?

W10.2 Remix Culture / Seungju Lee

1. Summary In this reading, the definition of remix culture is explained. Remix culture  is a society  that allows and encourages derivative works  by combining or editing existing materials to produce new creative work or product.  This reading explains that remixing was always a part of the human culture. But, remixing has some problems. It is related to copyright. In this process, r emix culture has created an environment that is nearly impossible for artists to have or own original work. So if this is to persist, people need to create new things. 2. Interesting point It is interesting that there are many remixes in many areas. And through this, I could see many examples of remixes and the positive effects based on them. But on the other hand, I found that there were also many problems such as copyright issues. I felt that it took everyone's efforts to solve this problem.

W10/ Remix culture/ Lee Hayoung

This culture is a culture that encourages the creation and derivation of new creations by editing or combining existing ones. Cultural development has been slow and frozen due to decades of strict copyright restrictions, but this culture has also been established by acknowledging that such remixing is a cultural act. It was interesting that the remix culture was being applied in a wide variety of areas. Also, I was looking forward to seeing how many more works will appear in the future, thinking that there was no move to create something new from the existing one, but that it has just emerged. But we will have to know how to correctly distinguish the boundaries between plagiarism and remix. What attitude should we have as consumers of information?

W10/ Free-culture movement/ Lee Hayoung

The free cultural movement is to encourage the free distribution and modification of information related to social movements and to creatively open up to others on the Internet. That is why the movement opposes copyright laws that are excessively restrictive. Too much restriction stifles people's creativity. People call such a system a licensed culture. To authorize the sharing and reprocessing of many works under various conditions. Like this, the free cultural movement has a great feature of free exchange of ideas, and is connected not only to open source Swiftware, but also to other movements or philosophies such as open access, remix culture and hacker culture. It also approaches the Knowledge Exercise Copylift Exercise and Public Movement. In fact, unlike the Copyright Act, I realized for the first time that there is a separate name for a culture that allows users to freely use and reprocess their creations. I thought that being licensed to process as long as there was permi...

W10.2 Remix Culture / Juhee Cha

1. Summary The remix culture is a culture that allows and encourages new works derived from combining and editing existing materials to create new creations and products. This culture essentially frees the efforts of copyright owners to improve, modify, integrate or mix their work. In order for a remix culture to survive, people must share and create new works. Consumers should play the role of producer in the media culture at the same time. Artists have become unable to own original works. 2. Intertesting Point I think people's approaches to creative works are increasing and remix culture is also developing. In the remix culture, we are consumers and we are the role of creators. The development of the Web has had a lot of influence as a cause. If you look at the content on the web, people can share it as long as it doesn't contain specific warnings. In society, there are times when control is reduced and existing materials are remixed to create something better, and I think po...

W9. Wikipedia's culture & Wikipedia in culture / Lee Se Hyun

Summary As Wikipedia grew, Wikipedia was mentioned in various cultural areas. This article shows Wikipedia referenced in various areas. There are no restrictions in the cultural realm of comedy, music, magazines, clothing, cartoons, literature, mail, news and television. It also appears in politics. Wikipedia references in various areas prove that Wikipedia has a lot of influence on society.   These comments about Wikipedia coexist with praise and criticism. For example, in Simpson, the character Lisa tries to learn more by using Wikipedia after discovering the witch's Coven. This shows Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that is familiar and accessible to people and has high information diversity. This speaks of Wikipedia's strengths. Also in the BBC News Quiz, Alan Coren mentioned the mistakes he made in Wikipedia, which shows Wikipedia's chronic problems. Interesting point Unlike Korea, it was amazing that Wikipedia has a great influence in Western society. In Korea, Wi...

WK 11.2 Reading Commons - Hanane Ben Abdeslam

Commons is a media repository that is created and maintained by volunteers. It provides a central repository for freely licensed photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text, video clips, and media of all sorts that are useful for any Wikimedia project. The most well-known of which is Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. You can material on Wikipedia. In fact, that’s what they want you to do. You can upload any freely licensed media files that is useful for any Wikimedia project. However, the licenses must allow for commercial use and the creation of derivative works. Commons is not intended to be a primarily a repository for software, it’s intended to be a media repository. Also, text may depend on form and content. As long as you note that you must not copy and paste text to these other projects unless you are willing to release it into the public domain, or license it for use under the creative commons. You can see media back in the gallery. Galleries are a complement to cate...

WK 10.2 Reading Remix Culture - Hanane Ben Abdeslam

The remix culture is also known as read-write culture, this is known as a society that allows and encourages derivative works by combining or editing existing materials to produce a new creative work or product. A remix culture would be, by default, permissive of efforts to improve upon, change, integrate, or otherwise remix the work of copyright holders. While combining elements has always been a common practice of artists of all domains throughout human history, the growth of exclusive copyright restrictions in the last several decades limits this practice more and more by the legal chilling effect. Furthermore, the Creative Commons where invented in 2001 by Lessig, which released licenses as tools to enable remix culture again, as remixing is legally prevented by the default exclusive copyright regime applied currently on intellectual property. The remix culture for cultural works is related to and inspired by the earlier free and open-source software for software movement, which e...

WK 9.2 Wikipedia in culture - Hanane Ben Abdeslam

References to Wikipedia in western culture have increased as more people learn about and use the online encyclopedia project. Many parody Wikipedia’s openness, with individuals vandalizing or modifying articles in nonconstructive ways. Still, others feature individuals using Wikipedia as a reference work, or positively comparing their intelligence to Wikipedia. In some cases, Wikipedia is not used as an encyclopedia at all, but instead serves more as a character trait or even as a game. Wikipedia has also become culturally significant with many individuals seeing the presence of their own Wikipedia entry as a status symbol. However, any user can change any entry, and even if enough other users agree with them, it becomes true. If only the entire body of human knowledge worked this way. And it can. We can all create a reality that we all can agree on.  Originality and personal signature play less and less a role. Graduation theses, political programs and encyclopedias are put...

W10.1 Free Culture Movement / Juhee Cha

1.Summary The Free Culture Movement is a social movement that promotes the freedom to distribute and modify other people's creative works in the form of free or public content without compensation or consent to the creators of the works using the Internet and other forms of media. The move opposes overly restrictive copyright laws. Many members of the movement argue that such a law hinders creativity. On the contrary, copyright supporters speak out against the free culture movement. The reasons for this are the impersonation of anonymous media and the economic dignity of middle-class creative artists. 2.Interesting Point I think the representative example of the free culture movement is Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a co-produced article, and I thought copyright does not exist strongly. But there was also damage caused by it. Wikipedia's articles take some time for feedback to be made, but there are cases where unclear articles are taken away, undermining Wikipedia's ...

W9. Wikipedia in culture / Kim Seon Woo

Summary   Wikipedia is a pronoun. Since it has established itself as a culture, it can be used as a pronoun. You can compare intelligence with Wikipedia, or use it as a game or character. It criticizes and affirms Wikipedia culture and is also used as a joke material.  Interesting Point.  Like Korea's Naver intellectual service, in the West, Wikipedia seems to be a 'pronoun'.  Discussion  But why is Wikipedia not so powerful in Korea? Is it a marketing issue?

W8. Reliable sources / Kim Seon Woo

Summary  When quoting a source from Wikipedia, the word 'source' has three related meanings. Author itself (article, book) Author (author, journalist) Publisher of work (e.g. Random House or Cambridge University Press) One of three things can affect reliability. A trusted source can be a material published using a reliable publishing process, authors deemed authoritative with respect to the subject, or both. These qualifications must be able to prove to others.  Interesting Point.   There is no device that gives credibility to people as much as “to prove”. Wikipedia has made it possible to create reliable sources naturally with the technology and value of collective intelligence.  Discussion   But what if the whole group is biased toward one opinion? For example, a state of national crisis such as corona.

W8. Reliability of Wikipedia / Kim Seon Woo

Summary  Wikipedia is open to anonymous, co-editing, so evaluating reliability checks how quickly false or misleading information is removed. According to a study conducted by IBM researchers for two years after Wikipedia was founded in 2003, "vandalism usually recovers very quickly, so most users will not see it quickly," Wikipedia says, "surprisingly effective self-healing I concluded it worked. ”  Interesting Point.   I have always questioned the reliability of Wikipedia, and I was impressed with the complete error correction system.  Discussion   What can I do to facilitate academic use, such as citing papers, beyond simply understanding information?

W9. Wikipedia's culture & Wikipedia in culture / Seungju Lee

1. Summary This reading is about Wikipedia in culture. This reading refers that  Wikipedia in western culture  has increased. And it explains many examples of reference in Wikipedia. And there is explained the concept of wikiality.  Stephen Colbert  announced the neologism  "wikiality", It means that  "truth by consensus. And next, many examples are presented. It is used in various kinds of departments.  For example, music, comedy, television episode, etc. 2. Interesting point From this reading, I can learn about the existence of word "wikiality" and the meaning of this word. And also, it is used in various kinds of departments, like media. It was interesting to me.

W9. Wikipedia in culture / Juhee Cha

1.Summary As Wikipedia's usefulness grew, Wikipedia also had a great impact on Western culture. It uses Wikipedia as a reference work, positively compares intelligence to Wikipedia, or is not even used as an encyclopedia, but as a character or game. There are also cases where Wikipedia symbolizes status. It also criticizes or parodies Wikipedia's openness and affects other cultures. Wikipedia has had enough impact to be found in context, politics, comedy and food sources. 2.Interresting Point I realized that Wikipedia had a lot of influence on Western culture. However, there are times when culture mocks Wikipedia's inaccuracies. Not only will this damage Wikipedia's image, but it will also likely cause many people to question Wikipedia's accuracy. I thought that Wikipedia influenced culture and influenced culture again influenced Wikipedia. When I watch Wikipedia, I feel like I'm watching our society. 3.Discussion But I don't think Wikipedia's influence ...

W9. Wikipedia in culture - Woojin Jeong

Summary This is about Wikipedia in our culture. And sometimes Wikipedia becomes a culture itself.  References to w ikipedia in western culture  have increased. There is a   neologism  "wikiality" by   Stephen Colbert   which means that  a phenomenon in which truth is determined by people's consent.  And  Wikipedia is not always referenced in the same way,  Wikipedia is mentioned as a source in various contexts. For example, it is used  as comedic material,  entertainment information source, and so on.  Interesting/learned 'Wikiality' is most interesting part for me in this reading category. Stephen Colbert  announced this phenomenon "Wikiality," which is "a reality where anyone can change an item and it becomes true if many people agree." He declared U.S. President Warren Harding a "hidden black president" and changed Wiki's description of him.  I read another example of 'Wikiality'. One day, student f...

W9) Wikipedia culture & Wikipedia in culture - Hyojung Park

-Summary Wikipedia is mentioned in various fields of Western culture, including article, pro-motion, comic stripe, commercial, TV show, and Novel. It is sometimes used in a positive sense, but there are many mocking comments that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that lacks the reliability that anyone can modify. Colbert called Wikipedia's information "wikiality," meaning "truth by consensus." This was a criticism that Wikipedia considers some information true through agreements, even if it is not really accurate information. -Interesting Point Wikipedia was affecting Western culture more than I thought. In Korea, there is not much mention of Wikipedia. Of course, anyone can make a mistake, at this point you should look at the person's attitude after making a mistake, rather than focusing on the mistake itself. You have to see if you can correct the error. We often judge how much the person cares and is active only by the total number of edits, but we shouldn't. In fact, many people who have edited so many times have been blocked many times. I think we should be able to look at the process in it.
